Maple Leaf Quilt Block - A FQS Quilt Along

Happy Fall, ya'll!!!

I'm so happy that it finally feels like Fall here in the Carolinas. Summer felt like it lasted forever, then we had hurricane weather, and now, finally, the leaves are turning and there is a chill in the air. Of course, that means there will be lots and lots of leaves to pick up! That's not so fun but today I want to share with you my favorite kind of Fall leaf (the fabric kind)!

The Maple Leaf quilt block!

There are lots of leaf block patterns out there but this one from the Fat Quarter Shop (FQS) is a fun, scrappy take on the block. The pattern is part of the FQS #classicandvintage series where they take classic patterns that we all know and love and remix them in fresh ways. Even though I only made one block, I love the look of the entire quilt.

Maple Leaf Quilt image from Fat Quarter Shop

This image is a mock up of the quilt from the FQS website. You can really start to see the scrappiness of the blocks come through in the whole quilt. Fat Quarter Shop offers the pattern for this quilt on their website. They also offer a quilt kit if you want to make one that looks just the image above! (Disclaimer: I did not receive any compensation for making this quilt block or for writing this post.)

Well friends, it's time for me to go work on other sewing projects. I'll leave you with the current view from my sewing room.

Clementine Quilt Along - July

This is it people! The final stretch! The end is near! Wait... that makes me sound like I'm talking about the end of days. No, no... I'm talking about the final instructions for the Clementine Quilt Along (CQA)!

Since January, Fat Quarter Shop has released a quilt block every month as part of their charity quilt along the Clementine Quilt Along. Every block is available to download but they do ask that you make a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (donation link). It's a great way to support a great cause! All the info can be found on the Clementine Quilt Along page.

All the blocks have really fun fruit names and every month I looked forward to learning the new names. You can see all my monthly blocks (and their names) here:

True to form, I didn't follow the pattern. Sometimes, I just can't help myself! I always justify it by telling myself that what I'm really doing is showing all you lovely people different options. Yeah... So, in this version of the quilt, I opted to keep the on point blocks square and I left off the borders. Really though, I am a firm believer in doing what works for you! Change sizes! Add/delete borders! Swap blocks! You do YOU!

I used the Biscuits and Gravy fabric collection from Basic Grey Fabrics for Moda. I love, love, loved working with this collection. It's a color palette I don't usually go for but it made me happy every time I was using it. I hope this quilt will continue to bring me joy every time I see it. I quilted it with a basic serpentine stitch. That's the same I way I quilted this quilt nearly a year ago, and I swore I wouldn't use it again because of how much that quilt shifted. But, that quilt has become one of the most comfy couch quilts I have and it's because of the quilting! So, I decided to try the serpentine stitch again; and I also used every basting pin I had in the house to keep the shifting to a minimum! Lol. I think it turned out great.

Clementine Quilt Along - June

Hey there! It's JUNE already and that means it's the time for the final block pattern in the Clementine Quilt Along!

The Clementine Quilt Along is a charity QAL hosted by Fat Quarter Shop in partnership with Moda Fabrics and benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (donation link). Every month, Jan. 2018 through June 2018, Fat Quarter Shop releases a new block for FREE but the catch is that they ask you to make a donation every time you download a block. It's a great way to support a great cause! All the info can be found on the Clementine Quilt Along page.

The June block is called Strawberry Star and I think it's my favorite of all the blocks!

The more observant among you may have noticed that this block is used in the Clementine Quilt Along logo. How many of you just scrolled to the top of the post to check it out?

It's almost like finding a Hidden Mickey. ;)

Oh, it's the little things in life that amuse me. Anyway... you can see my previous blocks by clicking the following links:

Also, every month I say that it's not to late to join in the fun because the blocks go together really fast, but... it's getting close to the end. I mean, this is the LAST block pattern to be released. So yeah, there's still time but it's not I'll sew a little bit here and there time, it's more like I hope everyone likes pizza because I'm too busy sewing to cook time.

Clementine Quilt Along - May

Hey everyone!

It's reveal day for the May block of the Clementine Quilt Along!

The Clementine Quilt Along is a charity project that is being hosted by the Fat Quarter Shop. Each month, for six months, they are releasing a free block pattern. Fat Quarter Shop is partnering with Moda Fabrics for this project and all proceeds will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. So, they ask that if you download a block pattern that you make a donation (donation link). It's a fun way to support a great cause! You can find more information on the Clementine Quilt Along page.

This month's block is called Pineapple's Puzzle. I am loving these fruity names! You can see my previous blocks and their fruity names by clicking the following links:

All the blocks are so fun! I am really looking forward to the block for June. It's the last block in the project! They go together really fast so it's not too late to join in all the fun!

Clementine Quilt Along - April!

Hey guys! It's time for the reveal of the April block for the Clementine Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop!

It's already month 4 of the quilt along! We are more than halfway through! It's not too late to join in though. The construction of the blocks is fairly quick so anybody who wants to quilt along will be caught up in no time. Also, the quilt along is for a great cause - supporting St. Jude Children's Hospital. The blocks are free to download but donations would be appreciated (donation link).

This month's block is called Coconut Cross.

I've really been enjoying these block names! Every month I look forward to learning the name of the new block. You can see the previous blocks I've made (and their names) here, here, and here.

I'm using Biscuits and Gravy fabric by Basic Grey for Moda and I loooove how these fabrics look in these blocks. So, all in all, I'm really pleased with how my blocks are coming out and I can't wait for next month!

Clementine Quilt Along - March!

I can't believe we are already three months in to the Clementine Quilt Along! For those of you who may be wondering what that is, it is a charity quilt along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop (partnering with Moda Fabrics) and benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The blocks patterns are free every month but they do ask that you give a small donation for each download (donation link).

This month's block is called Peaches & Plenty!

It's such a fun block, but oh, those points! These blocks have been point testers for sure. They aren't too bad as long as you are careful when pinning and sewing. Or, if you are wild and carefree, you probably don't care. :)

This month I decided to press some of my seams open to reduce some of the bulk. It worked out really well and I think I may press all my seams open for the next block.

Just for fun, I wanted to see how all three blocks looked together so far.

I think they look great and I can't wait for next month's block! You can read more about January's block here, and February's block here.
