Color Play Friday - Bagpipes on Fremont Street

Hey everyone and welcome to another Color Play Friday!

For those of you who may be new, Color Play Friday (CPF) is a fun, weekly challenge hosted by Lorinda from Laurel, Poppy and Pine. Each week she provides a photograph as inspiration and then the CPF participants create a color palette and a fabric bundle based on the photo. It's a lot of fun and a great way to exercise your color skills. Everyone is welcome to join in. You can find more info on how to play along by clicking the CPF button on my sidebar.

This week's photo is actually one I took several years ago.

This photo has such a riot of color! And yeah, those are bagpipes. And yeah, they were LOUD!

Here is what I came up with this week.

There was so much color in this photo that I actually came up with four different palettes! In the end though, I thought this one was truest to the overall content of the photo. I went with some basics this week because, really, who doesn't love basics?! I had thought to do a whole plaid themed bundle but that was just a hot mess! Fun fact: I love plaid and I try to include it in everything.

Color Play Friday - Colorful Rocks

Hello all you fabulous people! It's Color Play Friday!

For those of you who are new, Color Play Friday (CPF) is a fun, weekly challenge hosted by Lorinda from Laurel, Poppy and Pine. Each week she provides a photograph as inspiration and then the CPF participants create a color palette and a fabric based on the photo. It's a lot of fun and everyone can play along! For more info on how to join the fun, click the CPF button on my sidebar!

This week's photo is one of Lorinda's and it's called Colorful Rocks.

I imagine that it was taken on a gorgeous beach day. Those are my favorite kinds of days. I love going to the beach and walking along the shore looking for rocks and seashells.

Here is what I came up with.

The color palette I created from this photo was giving me a very distinct southwestern vibe and I really wanted the fabrics I picked to reflect that. I love what I came up with and I love that this bundle came as such a surprise to me. When I first looked at those rocks I never imagined I'd go down this road. That's one of the best things about Color Play Friday - it takes you places.

Mid - February Happenings. It's the "haps," people.

Yep. It's the haps. The happenings. The goings-ons. The... I don't know what the kids say these days. Anyway, it really is just a rundown of what I've been doing lately.

First up, I've been working on this quilt top for a while.

A little bit here, a little bit there. It all adds up and sooner or later it'll come together. More "later" than "sooner" in this case. Confession: I've had those blocks made for months now! Yikes. I made them and then they got pushed aside for other projects, as it happens. You all know what I'm talking about. But I did manage to get all these blocks sewn into rows.

From here it's just a few quick seams to finish the top. But... I've been distracted...

By this!

This is a gorgeous bundle of Luna Sol fabric by Felice Regina from Sew Scatterbrained. I actually won this bundle in a giveaway hosted by Heidi from Fabric Mutt and sponsored by Windham Fabrics. So a huge thank you to all involved! I actually received the bundle a while back but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it. Obviously a quilt will somehow emerge from these fabrics but at the time I didn't have a pattern in mind. But I've finally come up with a plan. I finalized all the quilt math last week and made a test block earlier this week, so I'm good to go! Funnily enough, I think it was the day after I finished the math that Felice announced she was holding a contest for projects made with this fabric line. The timing is perfect!

Speaking of contests and giveaways, I just won two gorgeous patterns from Lorna at Sew Fresh Quilts. The patterns are Little Blooms and Stepping Stones. Thank you, Lorna!!! If you aren't familiar with Lorna and her work you should go check her out!

All that should keep me busy for a while. :)

Color Play Friday - Rain on the Pavement

It's that time again... it's Color Play Friday!

Color Play Friday (CPF) is a fun, weekly challenge hosted by Lorinda from Laurel, Poppy and Pine. Each week she provides a photo as inspiration and then the CPF players create a color palette and a fabric bundle based on the photo. It's a lot of fun and everyone is welcome to join in! You can find out more about Color Play Friday and how to participate by clicking the Color Play Friday button on my sidebar.

This week's photo is called Rain on the Pavement.

This is actually a really cool photo. I love how you can see the reflection of the trees and the sky.

Here is what I came up with.

I think the photos that have seemingly less color are actually easier and more fun to work with. Why? I guess it's because I feel like I'm more creative and more focused when working within a parameter. When I first saw this photo I knew I wanted to play with tones of grey and that I wanted to highlight that pop of blue sky. I also wanted my fabric bundle to have a funky, text-y, sort of architectural blueprint feel to it. I absolutely love the prints that I found and I think they really create the vibe I was going for.
