Jolly Braid Tote Bag - A Fat Quarter Shop Quilt Along

I totes made a tote! (I crack myself up every time I say that, and believe me, I've said it a lot over the last week!)

I'm SO happy I teamed up with Fat Quarter Shop for another quilt along. This is the new Jolly Braid Tote Bag, and it's just gorgeous!

Want to know a secret? I've never made a bag before. So if I can do it, you can too! I was really nervous to tackle this project, but I pressed on. The instructions were so clear and easy to follow, and this project was a joy to sew!

I knew immediately that I wanted to use Modern Background Luster by Zen Chic for this bag. I purchased a Jolly Bar (this being a Jolly Bar specific pattern), extra yardage, and a few extras, and I was ready to go!

I can't tell you enough how gorgeous this fabric is! During construction of the bag, I kept stopping just to admire it. Lol.

I deviated slightly from the pattern with the handles. The pattern called for a scrappy handle, but I had just enough yardage to make my handles match my side pieces. I made an executive decision and went with it!

  1. It's a beauty! Love those fabrics, and I think the nonscrappy handle was a good choice :)

  2. Congratulations on making your first bag! Your choice in fabric and making an executive decision for the straps was totally spot on for this bag. I need to check out this pattern, yours is the second one I've seen and if I'm going to make a bag, it has to be simple. Thanks for sharing.
