Jelly Roll Ripples Quilt - A Fat Quarter Shop Quilt Along!

Hey everyone!

Do you ever feel the need... the need for speed? Just Kidding. What I meant to say was do you ever feel the need to make a really quick quilt? Sometimes I just need to make something quick to feel like I've accomplished something, anything.

Enter the Shortcut Quilt Series from Fat Quarter Shop (FQS)! It's exactly what it sounds like, a series of QUICK quilt patterns. Recently, I had the opportunity to participate in the quilt along for the newest FQS Shortcut Series pattern and I jumped at the chance. The new pattern is called Jelly Roll Ripples and it's so fun!

I actually deviated slightly from the pattern and left off the borders... I'm so rebellious. Really though, my aim was for a quick project AND the size without the borders (50" x 70") was just right, so it just made sense for me to 86 the borders. I do feel a bit bad though that I didn't follow the pattern to a "T". After all, this is a quilt along to showcase a pattern. On the other hand, I can say that I'm highlighting the versatility of the pattern. Yeah, let's go with that.

I hemmed and hawed a bit about which fabric to use but in the end I went with this gorgeous jelly roll of Anemone Batiks by Lunn Studios for Robert Kaufman Fabrics. Who loves precuts but hates the mess from the pinked edges? Me! Right here. This girl.

For years I've been using a lint roller along the edges of my precuts to clean up most of the mess. If you already know this trick then just ignore me but if you don't know, now you do! I keep a dedicated lint roller in my sewing room. It's kind of sad but I use that one more than the one in my laundry room.

Here's another tip for you. If you don't have a large design wall, or in my case are just trying to be quick about it, you can use the scraps from your blocks to arrange where you want your blocks to go. I used my scraps and played around with them on the floor until I was happy with the layout.

After that, I chain pieced everything. After all, speed is the name of the game. I have to laugh because everything about this quilt was FAST.

Basting: fast. Quilting: fast. Binding: faaaaassssst!

Please tell me you read that using a voice like Joey eating Rachel's trifle.

I'm so easily amused.
